Adios patineta

Bye, bye scooters

I wish that they had done this before my husband spent money on that nifty yellow scooter he got. We better go warn my Dad to not use it again.

I think it's a good idea to just outlaw them since the cops give you tickets for them anyway. A ban would have prevented us from wasting a couple hundred bucks!

Why I hate being in this building most days

Ok, everyone who knows me is familiar with my unhappiness about my job. There are many reasons for this and I will probably go into them eventually. But for now let me just demonstrate an example of the type of people who are here.

Scene 1: Elevator going up from 1 to 7 after lunch. My friend and I are already in and a group of people who apparently went out for lunch (instead of eating the free but bad cafeteria food) come in.

GenericPerson01: Man, that was good. Where are we going next week?
GenericPerson02: Let's go to the Venezuelan place.
GenericPerson03: Venezuelan? What's that like?
GenericFratBoy01: Uhh, dude. It's like bland Mexican.

At that point I roll my eyes and they get off on their floor. I was unable to think of a retort in time.

One of my big beefs with this place is that the people they hire seem to have led cloistered little CT lives. That's not the problem per se. The problem is that they, even now as adults, are unwilling to expand their minds in any way shape or form. They are afraid of the City, intolerant of immigrants, unwilling to cultivate their minds, etc.

I never expected them to know the difference between caraotas and refried beans, but at least be sensitive enough to know that Latinos don't like to be compared to each other. And why is the standard always Mexican? Arg!

Famous Dominicans

List of famous Dominicans

Found that while looking for something else (isn't that the beauty of the Web).

I was happy to see that our list was somewhat substantive.

There are some people missing though:

Ramon Orlando and/or at least Cuco Valoy
Joseito Mateo
Tavito Vasquez
Junot Diaz (author)
Michelle Rodriguez (actress)
Alfonso Soriano and all the other baseball players not mentioned
Susie Castillo (beauty queen)

I'm just trying to think of people who've made names for themselves here or have been a big influence in their fields.

Since when is Wilfrido Vargas Sergio's brother?

OK is this really me now?
